I'm Rob and I'm in recovery for a gambling addiction. One thing that really helped me in my journey to leaving gambling behind was finding purpose in my life and I found that through creating my channel Rob_odaat
In this article, I want to tell you what ODAAT stands for and why I chose it as my name online.
What Does ODAAT Mean?
ODAAT comes from the 12 step program. It stands for One Day At A Time.
When I was trying to stop gambling, this became a massively important mantra for me.
Why Did I Name Myself Rob_Odaat?
I was always trying to solve all of my problems at once. I knew I needed to stop gambling, but I was facing massive debts as a result of my gambling and didn't know which I should try to solve first: my gambling problem or my very real debt problem.
If you've ever had a lot of things on your plate to get done, you may know the feeling of being overwhelmed. When it comes to recovery, getting overwhelmed could be the very reason why you fail to start the process.
I named myself Rob One Day At A Time because that truly is all we get. We can't do everything at once, we can't be everywhere at once, we can't live every day at the same time. We only have the present moment and that moment comes one day at a time.
When you adapt your approach to recognize this, you begin to actually make some progress. You can't walk 100 directions at the same time, but you can walk 100 steps in one direction.
To me, ODAAT is a mantra of focus.
How to embrace ODAAT in your life?
If you feel like you need to do 100 things at once, just ask yourself: "are all of these things equally important"... When you inevitably say no, figure out which thing is the most important and start there.
You don't have to get it all done in one swing, you can take things one day at a time, even if it's frustrating or uncomfortable at first.
